OOTD: Wild at Heart

At the weekend I visited Al Ain Zoo, I was wearing denim shorts with the black top pictured and Docs. However I was told I needed to wrap a shawl around my waist while in the main part of the Zoo. I ended up really liking the way it looked, kind of similar to the MMMxH&M silk skirt-which I own. I'm glad I was wearing the Docs as they completed the look, for more ways I style them check out my first YouTube video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFnAN84-9Jk
So I thought I'd do an outfit post on my unplanned zoo outfit!

OOTD: Ethereal grunge

I love the ethereal look of these pictures achieved by the dress. The Nightwalk inspired shoes make my legs grow inches thus adding to the fragile ghostly look. By adding the chains and harsh shoes it gives the look an 'edgy' vibe.

Jack Wills store opening at Mercarto!

In all honesty I have never been a massive fan of Jack Wills, as it simply isn't my style However for those of you who do like the preppy British style, the Mercarto store is lovely! It is very decadently British staying true to the Jack Wills image and it's a bigger store than the Dubai Mall branch. Not only do they stock all the current Jack Wills collections, they also carry the upcoming accessories. Such as headphones, perfume, make-up bags, water bottles and so much more. The opening was fabulously British of course! I loved the tea party themed nibbles!

Let me know what you think of the new store, if you stop by!
Thanks for reading and thank you to Jack Wills for the very generous goodie bag!

A New year, a new you?

Being almost two weeks into 2013 already, I decided to address the idea of the new year bringing about a 'new you.' As cliché as it seems I think everyone secretly hopes this year will be better for them than last year. However this year I've decided making copious lists of 'New years resolutions' is not for me. Instead I have chosen two 'mantras'/quotes as it were to live by this year.
♥'Be the best version of yourself you can be'
For me this quote means not comparing myself to others but striving to be the best I can possibly be. Whether it be academically, physically or mentally. I feel like we are always comparing our lives to other peoples, especially on social networking sites, but this isn't a healthy or fair way to judge yourself. Recognising your flaws is step one in becoming a better version of yourself. I'm usually a very negative person and see the worst in every situation which makes me a worrier. However this year I am trying to channel positive energy and see the silver linings in situations! This brings me onto my next 'mantra' of the year:

 ♥ Be positive!
This is a really hard thing for me to do but so far this year I have managed to be a lot more positive than I was! Of course I'm not suggesting that I don't have bad days where I don't want to get out of bed but I'm definitely making progress. 2013 is the year things will be changing in my life, I'm moving back to the UK,will be living alone for the first time and starting University, so being positive is going to be key. For anyone leaving school/college this year it is going to be very stressful at times having a mentally positive attitude is going to be essential! I recently heard this quote which I love, "become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know." Take a leaf out of the book of that person you know who is smiling before 9am every morning, or the one who is always enthusiastic no matter what the task. Thinking positively not only makes you appear ten times happier, you feel ten times happier within yourself.

I have noticed a change in myself already this year due to following these two tips and am looking forward to an amazing year! I hope 2013 is all what you hope, remember, you get out what you put in. Make an effort to change for the better this year and take every opportunity that comes your way.
What do you think of my two 'mantras'? Have you made any of your own?

OVERWORN FASHION TRENDS 2012

This year we've seen the new, old and damn right ugly becoming fast fashion trends that have littered the high street. Quite frankly as soon as the high-street get hold of a trend it quickly becomes something that the fashion elite are over and wouldn't be seen dead in. Here are my top ten overworn trends/fads of 2012!

NUMBER 10:  AA DISCO PANTS

When American Apparel first bought back the spandex trend of '08 earlier this year, I'll admit I did quite fancy a pair. However, much like all of these trends, once they'd exploded every indie/hipster girl was strutting around in them. The more I look at them the less I like them to be honest, too shiny, too tacky, too 80's.

NUMBER 9: SKULLS & CROSSES

Who thought it would be a good idea to put a religious symbol  on EVERYTHING and what's with skulls everywhere I turn? 2012 has been a year long Satanic ritual in terms of fashion. I've also never understood how someone can so light heartedly wear a Christian symbol when they aren't of that Religion, each to their own, but I'm crossing (get it) my fingers that 2013 will let go of this skulls and crosses obsession!
NUMBER 8: LITAS
*Hypocrite alert* I adore my Litas and wear them all the time. It's only recently now that everyone seems to own a pair, real or not that they have begun to annoy me. So in at number 8 are the infamous JC Litas.

NUMBER 7: CREEPERS
Jeepers creepers indeed. The most ugly shoes of 2012 please stand up. The 'in' shoes of the 14 year old Hipsters, spamming Tumblr paired with stupid frilly socks. Flatform shoes are one thing but these are the word 'foul' in shoe form.

NUMBER 6: PEPLUM

Skirts, dresses and tops, you just can't escape the peplum trend. It was hard to find clothes without the pear shaped outline. Everyone has been wearing this trend in the last few months giving it the number 6 spot on my overworn countdown.

NUMBER 5: HIGHLOW
I'm pleased to say I never followed this trend, to be honest I think it's rather stupid, you pick which length you want, both is just greedy. Again, everyone had these in their wardrobe making them overworn!

 NUMBER 4: HEEL-LESS WEDGES
When I first saw these, I fell in love. 'How different, how cool' I thought, now they are neither. No longer limited to designers the highstreet have jumped on the bandwagon too.Heel-less wedges have lost their originality and exclusive cool vibe.
NUMBER 3: WEDGE TRAINERS
Always been ugly, always been annoying, I have never been a fan of these no matter which designer has brought them out. Especially in Dubai, these have been a favourite of 2012 and are well and truly overworn.

NUMBER 2: GALAXY PRINT
I blame Tumblr for this stupid ugly trend (no offence). It was never fashionable, never original and never 'edgy.' The only thing it has ever been is everywhere. I'm wishing on every little star that the galaxy print is a thing of the past and I will no longer have to look at it everywhere I turn.

NUMBER ONE: STUDS

Coming in at number one, the most overworn  trend of 2012 are studs! Studs are on EVERYTHING and I'm sick of it! The rule of the year seemed to be 'stick some studs on it!' Just because something has studs or spikes on it, does not make it fashionable. My one piece of advice for the year is, drop the studs, or at least wear them in moderation.

That concludes my countdown and rant! Of course I don't mean for you to burn any of these items you own, because I sure won't be, but instead wear them in moderation in 2013! I think what I've learnt looking back at this year is I should invest in classic pieces as opposed to trend based items.

Finally, I'd like to thank you for reading and wish a very Merry Christmas!
I hope all your wishes come true and we have a much less annoying year for fashion in 2013!
All my love
