A New year, a new you?

Being almost two weeks into 2013 already, I decided to address the idea of the new year bringing about a 'new you.' As cliché as it seems I think everyone secretly hopes this year will be better for them than last year. However this year I've decided making copious lists of 'New years resolutions' is not for me. Instead I have chosen two 'mantras'/quotes as it were to live by this year.
♥'Be the best version of yourself you can be'
For me this quote means not comparing myself to others but striving to be the best I can possibly be. Whether it be academically, physically or mentally. I feel like we are always comparing our lives to other peoples, especially on social networking sites, but this isn't a healthy or fair way to judge yourself. Recognising your flaws is step one in becoming a better version of yourself. I'm usually a very negative person and see the worst in every situation which makes me a worrier. However this year I am trying to channel positive energy and see the silver linings in situations! This brings me onto my next 'mantra' of the year:

 ♥ Be positive!
This is a really hard thing for me to do but so far this year I have managed to be a lot more positive than I was! Of course I'm not suggesting that I don't have bad days where I don't want to get out of bed but I'm definitely making progress. 2013 is the year things will be changing in my life, I'm moving back to the UK,will be living alone for the first time and starting University, so being positive is going to be key. For anyone leaving school/college this year it is going to be very stressful at times having a mentally positive attitude is going to be essential! I recently heard this quote which I love, "become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know." Take a leaf out of the book of that person you know who is smiling before 9am every morning, or the one who is always enthusiastic no matter what the task. Thinking positively not only makes you appear ten times happier, you feel ten times happier within yourself.

I have noticed a change in myself already this year due to following these two tips and am looking forward to an amazing year! I hope 2013 is all what you hope, remember, you get out what you put in. Make an effort to change for the better this year and take every opportunity that comes your way.
What do you think of my two 'mantras'? Have you made any of your own?
Thanks for reading
