OVERWORN FASHION TRENDS 2012

This year we've seen the new, old and damn right ugly becoming fast fashion trends that have littered the high street. Quite frankly as soon as the high-street get hold of a trend it quickly becomes something that the fashion elite are over and wouldn't be seen dead in. Here are my top ten overworn trends/fads of 2012!

NUMBER 10:  AA DISCO PANTS

When American Apparel first bought back the spandex trend of '08 earlier this year, I'll admit I did quite fancy a pair. However, much like all of these trends, once they'd exploded every indie/hipster girl was strutting around in them. The more I look at them the less I like them to be honest, too shiny, too tacky, too 80's.

NUMBER 9: SKULLS & CROSSES

Who thought it would be a good idea to put a religious symbol  on EVERYTHING and what's with skulls everywhere I turn? 2012 has been a year long Satanic ritual in terms of fashion. I've also never understood how someone can so light heartedly wear a Christian symbol when they aren't of that Religion, each to their own, but I'm crossing (get it) my fingers that 2013 will let go of this skulls and crosses obsession!
NUMBER 8: LITAS
*Hypocrite alert* I adore my Litas and wear them all the time. It's only recently now that everyone seems to own a pair, real or not that they have begun to annoy me. So in at number 8 are the infamous JC Litas.

NUMBER 7: CREEPERS
Jeepers creepers indeed. The most ugly shoes of 2012 please stand up. The 'in' shoes of the 14 year old Hipsters, spamming Tumblr paired with stupid frilly socks. Flatform shoes are one thing but these are the word 'foul' in shoe form.

NUMBER 6: PEPLUM

Skirts, dresses and tops, you just can't escape the peplum trend. It was hard to find clothes without the pear shaped outline. Everyone has been wearing this trend in the last few months giving it the number 6 spot on my overworn countdown.

NUMBER 5: HIGHLOW
I'm pleased to say I never followed this trend, to be honest I think it's rather stupid, you pick which length you want, both is just greedy. Again, everyone had these in their wardrobe making them overworn!

 NUMBER 4: HEEL-LESS WEDGES
When I first saw these, I fell in love. 'How different, how cool' I thought, now they are neither. No longer limited to designers the highstreet have jumped on the bandwagon too.Heel-less wedges have lost their originality and exclusive cool vibe.
NUMBER 3: WEDGE TRAINERS
Always been ugly, always been annoying, I have never been a fan of these no matter which designer has brought them out. Especially in Dubai, these have been a favourite of 2012 and are well and truly overworn.

NUMBER 2: GALAXY PRINT
I blame Tumblr for this stupid ugly trend (no offence). It was never fashionable, never original and never 'edgy.' The only thing it has ever been is everywhere. I'm wishing on every little star that the galaxy print is a thing of the past and I will no longer have to look at it everywhere I turn.

NUMBER ONE: STUDS

Coming in at number one, the most overworn  trend of 2012 are studs! Studs are on EVERYTHING and I'm sick of it! The rule of the year seemed to be 'stick some studs on it!' Just because something has studs or spikes on it, does not make it fashionable. My one piece of advice for the year is, drop the studs, or at least wear them in moderation.

That concludes my countdown and rant! Of course I don't mean for you to burn any of these items you own, because I sure won't be, but instead wear them in moderation in 2013! I think what I've learnt looking back at this year is I should invest in classic pieces as opposed to trend based items.

Finally, I'd like to thank you for reading and wish a very Merry Christmas!
I hope all your wishes come true and we have a much less annoying year for fashion in 2013!
All my love

OOTN: Fairy lights chic!

This is the outfit I wore to tonight's Kardasian Kollection launch at Dubai Mall. It's finally cool enough to wear all my winter clothing, horrah! The outfit is very baggy, lacking definition, which I love and I feel looks effortlessly chic. The remainder of the Maison Martin Margiela X H&M is now half price, yes, that's correct, half price! As soon as I found out I practically ran to H&M and picked up one more item, I am now the proud owner of two pieces from the infamous collection (blogpost to follow). Luckily for me they only had the massive Margiela bags left, so I had to make do (was secretly jumping for joy!). So I took a few pictures posing with my lovely purchase hehe.

The Modals: Garadrobe Vintage Shoot!

About a month ago I was contacted and asked to join a collaboration of bloggers in Dubai in a new project, titled The Modals. The first phase of the project was a photo shoot of all the bloggers taken at my favourite vintage store in Dubai, Gardarobe! We all had our hair and makeup done and were treated to a lovely lunch! It was great to meet everyone involved and get excited about our project. Stay tuned for more on The Modals soon, for now here are a few of my pictures from the day:
We got to style our own outfits for the shoot, I choose this gorgeous Versace dress which I was in love with, it fit me like a glove which is unusual for me to be able to find!

What do you think of the 60's styling by me?

Bloomingdales event: What denim are you?

Bloomingdales' hosted an event earlier this week at Dubai Mall in celebration of denim. With an 80's retro vibe there was a live band and lots of sweets! I decided to dress for the occasion and went all out in the 80's theme! If you are in the market for a new pair of jeans then I'd recommend checking out Bloomingdales' as they have every style of jeans you can imagine! Here are a few pictures from the evening:

We were also gifted a 'Big Beach Bag' with a few goodies inside, thank you Blommingdales!

Review: LCF Short courses in Dubai

A few weeks ago I attended the London College of Fashion short course thanks to my lovely friend Izzy. I thought I'd do a review for any of you who were thinking of applying to one. The course was titled: 'Your future in Fashion' the aim was to help those thinking of a career in fashion to understand a bit more about the roles of certain jobs involved in the industry.
I 100% recommend this course to anyone hoping to have a future in fashion, I learnt about things that I didn't know existed within the industry! If you are thinking of applying to London College of Fashion I also suggest attending a course before you apply, just so you get a feel for it. I have had a couple of emails in the past from my readers asking me what I wish to study at University, after this course I have finally made up my mind. I am going to study Journalism with English Literature to begin with then take a Post-Graduate in Fashion Journalism, hopefully at London College of Fashion. The course really opened my eyes to everything involved in getting into the industry thanks to the excellent lecturer Toby Meadows. He taught us how to predict trends, about brand DNA, marketing strategies and much more.

After the course we were all invited to a cocktail evening at OKKU which was a lovely way to end the weekend course.
If you are interested in applying to a short course visit: http://www.fashion.arts.ac.uk/shortcourses/middle-east/
There are a variety of courses starting in Jan-May, if you do book a place let me know how it goes!
Hope this was helpful

Fashion Overdose: LONDONIZE.ME!

Last Wednesday night Wafa and Farah Habbar the creators of Londonize.me hosted the fabulous event that was Fashion Overdose at the amazing Armani Privé ! The evening consisted of a fashion show, socialising and partying, a very glamorous affair! I've already expressed my LOVE for Londonize.me, when I went to their pop-up shop a couple of weeks ago and if you haven't already checked out their website you seriously need to: http://londonize.me/

I guess I'm breaking one of the Fashion Shower rules by doing another post on my blog wearing the same outfit, but I had to wear this gorgeous River Island dress to at least one event in Dubai, forgive me Anna Del Russo! If you have no idea what I'm talking about watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZbF98jxF5c Regardless, here are the pictures!

H&M: Anna Del Russo's Fashion Shower accessories !

I could not resist not going to an H&M today, I just had to check out Anna's much awaited and hyped up collection! Everything was nice enough, I guess, just not really to my taste. Perhaps a little tacky at best?
I'd definitely worth going and having a look around though, even if it just to mock dead bird hats and brash necklaces...
Not too sure about this one, perhaps if I had a crazy event to go to or a mad hatters tea party...
As much as I love Anna Del Russo I feel these shoes just look a bit tacky
These are pretty, I do like them, however they aren't the best quality for the price!

Overall verdict: Not particularly for me apart from the clutches, I did like those, shame about the quality. One thing I did love about this collab however was the catchy song, Fashion Shower! If you haven't heard/seen it, you need to watch it now! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZbF98jxF5c
What do you think of the much awaited collection? Were you disappointed like me?
